MVCCO FORT STEVENS CAMPOUT AND LIVING HISTORY WEEKEND
FORT STEVENS; WARRENTON, OREGON, 9-12 AUGUST, 2001

3/505th (AHA) set up public display featuring an M-1936 squad tent (accomodations for our personel), two small wall tents, miscelaneous equipment and inspection layouts at the Fort Stevens Historical site on the Oregon coast. This was a coordinated effort with the Military Vehicle Collectors Club of Oregon, The Pacific Northwest Living History Association, and the Fort Steven Museum each of whom also put together displays featuring periods spanning the course of US military history and vehicles.

Attendance by the public was low. This is perhaps due to the relatively poor weather at this event compared to that of recent years. None-the-less interaction with the public at large did go on and we recieved positive feedback from several people.

The area is repleat with historical signifigance. Not only is the area one of only places to recieve enemy fire on the U.S. Main land during WWII, the mouth of the Columbia River is surrounded with active and inactive military installations. Some of these, such as Fort Columbia, feature museums and living history interpretive programs. In addition Herman Goering's yaught, now privately owned, is moored in a nearby marina. Members of our group took full advantage of the opportunity to take in these sites in addition to the regularly scheduled activities of the weekend.

The event was attended by troopers Kimpton, Peterson, Gay, Stubbins, and Nygard all of who dropped into the DZ on Thursday.

Saturday evening was marked by a dinner of fresh baked salmon for the participants courtesy of the MVCCO.
