Tribute To The Airborne, 20 April, 2002

Author Don Burget at the "Tribute To The Airborne" held at Lower Columbia College.

The third of the 505th set up a display at The Tribute to the Airborne Conference at Lower Columbia College In Longview Washington on Saturday 20 April. The event was a benefit for the Cowlitz County Museum. Featured speakers included Don Burgett, T. Moffatt Burriss, Robert M. Bowen, Bart Hagerman, John D. McKenzie, and Dan Malarkey and Buck Compton. A large number of veterans of both the airborne and various troop carrier units were in attendance as well. Troopers Kimpton and Reed conducted a seminar discusion on Living Huistory as a side presentation and Denmnis Rip brought his jeep and 37mm gun for display.

Other members in attendance included Lee Bishop, Geoff Gay, and Gerry Peterson and For the first time we were augmented by personel of I Co. 504th PIR (PNWHG). The interests of our two organizations proved to be the same and we got along famously. Hopefully this will prove to be the first in a series of cooperative efforts between the 505th and the 504th.

It should be noted that the event held special significance for the 504th people as T. Moffet Burris was their company comander during WWII.

The event was a success and raised over $48,000 for the museum.
