VETERANS DAY WEEKEND 10-11 NOVEMBER, 2001

Veterans day marks a busy time for the 505th and the Airborne Historical Association as a whole. Here is a summary of our activities during the holiday weekend.

VETERANS DAY PARADE, ALBANY, OREGON, 10 NOVEMBER

Troopers Peterson and Kimpton were inducted by the Oregon Military Museum to March as soldiers of the 328th Infantry Regiment (82nd Infantry Division) circa 1917-18. Although this is technically not an airborne impression, It does represent the heritage of America's only current full airborne division. We wore new reproduction "Pershing" boots for the occasion and gained new apreciation for the poors souls who marched to the Front in bad quality foot gear during the "War to End All Wars". Despite the discomfort and problems experienced as a result of these impliments of torture the entire contingent managed to complete the six mile walk without missing a step.

The Albany Parade is the Largest Veterans Day Parade in the United States. The crowds were huge and we were very enthusiastically recieved at this event.

USO DANCE, PEARSON AIR MUSEUM, VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON 10 NOVEMBER

Trooper Kimpton attended the anuall USO Dance at The Pearson Air Museum in Vancouver Washington Saturday evening. The theme of this years event was the aniversary of the creation of the United States Marine Corps but this did not deter him from wearing his 82nd Airbone Class A's. Several other Army personell were in attendance including many old friends . The event not only provided an opportunity to relax and enjoy the company of these people but also resulted in the aquisition of three prospective members for the 505th!

VETERANS DAY PARADE, MILWAUKIE, OREGON, 11 NOVEMBER

Trooper Kimpton marched in this parade, again as a member of the 328th in support of the Oregon Military Museum. This event was significantly smaller and shorter in duration than the one in Albany. Regardless of this fact it was enjoyable and several familiar faces from the 101st Airborne Division Associaction's Oregon Cascade Chapter were seen.

VETERANS DAY PARADE, BOISE, IDAHO, 10 NOVEMBER

K Company 505th PIR (AHA) marched in the Veterans Day parade on Saturday in Boise, ID. Reports indicate a record turnout for this one. Throngs of enthusiastic and cheerful spectators bursting with pride and patriotism for the country were more than evident. K Co. CO, Howard Wright, stated that he had never seen so many Flags.

K Company was placed in the parade between the 82nd Airborne Division Association and The Special Forces Association and thus were in good company.

WARHAWK MUSEUM DISPLAY, NAMPA, IDAHO, 11 NOVEMBER

K Co. (Boise, ID) set up a static display at the Warhawk Musuem in Nampa next to one of the P40's used in the movie "Pearl Harbor". The effort was met with a great many inteligent questions from the public.

As a result of this effort one 11th Airborne Gliderman who was visiting the museum will be put in touch with the Vincent J. Macdonald Chapter of the 11th Airborne Division Association in Portland. According to Trooper Wright "There is no local 11th Association, so he was very happy when we offered to hook him up with our contacts with the Association Chapter in Portland. If anything at the displays we can provide a clearing house to get scattered Vets in contact with their associations. as a service. It was a rewarding weekend. It looks like we picked up some interested recruits also."
