VOR NAVIGATION I THE VOR TRANSMITTER
A VOR Transmitter Station in the Nevada Desert VOR is an acronym designating "Very high Omni-directional Radio". It is the primary radio-navigation aid in the United States' aerospace system. It is also internationally designated as the standard short distance navigation aid for general and commercial IFR flights. 1,012 VOR/DME and VORTAC stations are operated by the Federal Aviation Administration in the United States. Microsoft Flight Simulator makes extensive use of virtual VOR stations. As such the principles of VOR navigation is of great relevance to the sim pilot in general.
