BRAVE WOMAN
(by Paul deLay)

I got a brave little woman
She's not the kind to whine and complain
I've got a brave little woman
She could but she just won't complain
I can't get her what she deserves
Sometimes it makes me feel so ashamed

She saw me starin' at my coffee one mornin'
Said, "I know what you're thinkin' about
It's only money, Paul
Everything will all work out"

I've got a brave little woman
She's not the kind to whine and complain
I can't get her what she deserves
She said she loves me just the same

Boom boxes shakin' the windows
Pistols poppin' outside our door
I got no love for the 'hood but oh lord
It's all I can afford

I've got a brave little woman
She could but she just won't complain
I can't get her what she deserves
Sometimes it makes me feel so ashamed

COME ON HOME
(by Paul deLay-Zora Young)

Come on home, you probably thought I was upset
Just come on home
Come on home, I understand how you get,
Just come on home
You know I love you more than anything in this world
You're a big strong man and I'm a little weak girl
I never want to hurt you, oh daddy, come on home

You can slap me around in public, that's okay
After all, you were pretty drunk and, uh,
I was going home anyway
Why, in just a couple days
I'll be good as new
There's plenty of things in your house that I can do
Oh, come on home

Gonna try to be a better cook
Just like you told me to
I bought this brand new ingredient
Putting some in all your favorite foods
Just standing here in the kitchen
Thinkin' how glad I am that you're my man
I'm gonna fix something up with this
Fifteen pound frying pan

I even stopped at the pawn shop
Picked up something special for you
It's got a real nice pearl handle, daddy,
And it comes with a permit, too,
I think I'll give it to you, baby
Soon as you walk into the room
I know how you men like those kind of toys
That go "boom, boom, boom"

Now you might have thought that I was worried
Worried about the rent, no, no
You been out drinkin' for a week, they tell me,
And I know that money it's already spent
Now I hear the police they are after you
So I guess there's only one safe thing for you to do
Come on home, baby, I'll take care of you

I got your bath water waitin' for you
And some hot grits too, ah ha, come on home
I got a nice hot cup of tea
If you pour it out the window
Kill an oak tree, come on home
I got a pillow for your face, uh, I mean head
Come on home

AIN'T FOOLIN' 'ROUND
(by Paul deLay-Donny Nicholo)

I don't drive my car
On the wrong side of the road
Don't mess with people
That I don't know
Tell you somethin' else
I ain't gonna do
Ain't foolin' 'round with you

Well, I never, never hang
From the towel machine
Don't eat red meat
If it's turnin' green
One other thing
I've learned not to do
I ain't foolin' 'round with you
No, no, ain't foolin' 'round with you

You didn't mention your husband
I guess you forgot
I was mighty damn lucky
I didn't get shot
You can still talk nasty
And you still look hot
But I got no time
For all the problems you got

I don't run for my life from nobody's back door
Makin' love on the carpet makes my elbows sore
Did all that kid stuff but not no more
And I ain't foolin' 'round with you
No, ain't foolin' 'round with you, uh-uh
Ain't foolin' 'round with you

And I'll tell you why, I'm not quite that dumb
Almost, but not quite
I want to live to be an old man
You see what I'm talkin' about?
Well, flash anything you got
See if I care
I got it goin' on at home, baby
Ain't foolin' 'round with you

ONLY ME
(by Paul deLay-Johnny Burgin)

Stopped by my baby's house
Last Friday afternoon
Candy and flowers with me
Like I 'most always do
She swung the door wide open
And flashed a great big grin
She said, "Oh, it's you, I'm sorry I can't let you in"

It's only me
I didn't mean to bum you out
It's only me
But we had our usual date
Looks like I'm gonna wait
It's only me

She rushed out right past me
Lookin' good and smellin' sweet
Popped into a town car
And they tore off down the street
I was gonna pop the question
As soon as I got a raise
But I made her wait too long
Promotion never came

It's only me
Just some guy who loves you
It's only me
Too young for the heavy loot
No fancy car, no fancy suit
It's only me

GREAT BIG KID
(by Paul deLay)

Had a party last night
Bought everybody steak
Wonder what happens to the money I make
I'm just a great big kid
Just a great big kid
People shakin' their heads
They say he's nothin' but a great big kid

Got a credit card
Came in the mail
If they don't raise my limit
I'm goin' to jail
I'm just a great big kid
Just a great big kid
People shakin' their heads
They say he's nothin' but a great big kid

Work hard when I work
Play hard when I play
Don't want to have fun,
Better get out of my way
I'm just a great big kid
Just a great big kid
People shakin' their heads
They say he's nothin' but a great big kid

Spent half the day Sunday
Playin' with the cat
Hope nobody sees me
Actin' like that
(chorus)

Full grown man,
Jumpin' on the bed
Woke up on the floor
With a lump on my head
(chorus)

Hangin' around Chicago, Illinois
With Rockin' Johnny and the Lazy Boys
(chorus)
