This is probably more than you want to know, so you can stop here and enjoy the picture of Dave and one of the puppies, and then go back to the main page if you prefer.

For those masochists who want to stick around and get the "skinny", read on.....

Dave is a born-and-bred native of Chicago, but has moved around the country several times for his business career. We moved to the Portland area in the Spring of 1997, after a number of years in the San Francisco Bay area.

In his "non-dog" life, he has been involved with the Medical industry for his whole career. His education is in the Sciences (Chemistry, Molecular Biology, and Genetics to be specific), and has been a manager at several companies.

Dave was directly involved with Abbott Labs diagnostics business, as both a Group Quality Assurance Manager and a Plant Manufacturing Manager. He helped set up a number of functions within the Division, and was part of the start-up and development teams for a number of immunodiagnostic products.

Dave was also the Quality Assurance head at Neutrogena, and helped set up their QA systems for their drug, cosmetic, and soap products.

Way back when, upon coming out of College, Dave did several years of Cancer Research at Northwestern University's Medical School.

This science background is what provides the base for my approach to Bouviers and canine health/genetics. I believe that good dogs are not just luck, that they are a planned program of genetics, health, and upbringing.

Open information and data is one of the keys to forwarding a healthy and stable dog. Without knowing both the downsides and upsides of particular bloodlines, you cannot make a well-educated decision on what should (or should not) be bred to what. I are distressed that there are those in the Bouvier Community (including the American Bouvier des Flandres Club and some past/present Members of the Board) who are not progressive in their thinking towards Open Health Registries.

Hiding behind screens and saying that "it's not wanted" or "it can't work" will keep the dangerous health conditions "buried", and WILL affect the long term health of our beloved breed.
