My Favorite Stories
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- Mafia!, by Michelle. An AU with Spike and Xander as sons of rival gang bosses. Funny and touching.
- Oral Fixations, by Melissa. Really should be called "Familiar". A funny well-written Willow/Spike.
- Precious, by MJ Gage. Stories don't come much sweeter than this. Spike loses his memory and Xander nurses him back to health.
- Super, by Elka. Willow casts a spell to give Spike his dearest wish. Spike becomes a superhero. Hysterical.
- Sands of Times series by James Walkswithwind and Wolfling. What if Xander ran from his abusive father to Giles? A deep engaging story with a Spike/Xander relationship.
- The Elsewhere, by Morgan R. Willow and Angel are swept into a fantasy AU. The fantasy part is very satisfying. A good read. But then the story continues, gets really sad and then they get thrown into another AU -- science this time, and *not* happy -- whereupon the story ends, unfinished. I'm recommending it because the first part, the fantasy AU stuck in my head and haunted me for a good while.
Crossovers
- Changing of the Guard, by Ecolea. Stargate SG-1/Highlander. Methos takes a job with the SG-1 and gets in over his head. This is a link to a page about the author that has the best collection of links for finding all the parts of her many stories.
- China, by torch. Highlander/X-Files. Mulder investigates a case while Methos is in town. Oh, yeah. Yummy pairing *and* an actual X-File. Read for the sex and for the story.
- High Corn Drifter, by Te. Oz wanders into Smallville, rocks Lex's world, and wanders out again.
- Immortal Secrets, by Trinity Day. Buffy/Highlander. Buffy's mom visits an old friend in Seacouver. Buffy gets dragged along and ends up slaying vamps with the help of a certain ROG. A clever story. I wish there were more like this.
- Loyalties, by Brenda Antrim. Stargate SG-1/X-Files. Krycek rescues Daniel from the Consortium. Nicely steamy, with a good edge of hurt/comfort.
- Snow and Cinder by HiperBunny and MrsHamill. Highlander/Star Wars. Methos keeps Obi-Wan from throwing himself off a cliff. Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes.
- When Hellmouths Collide by Kimberly Rector and Martha Wilson. Buffy and crew are accidentally transported to mythological Greece. Sharp, funny, impossible to put down.
Highlander
- Episodic Sadie, by bbc. Oh my God. Funny, well-characterized, gripping plot -- what more could you ask for? Sadie comes to Duncan for help after her husband dies mysteriously. Things begin to happen.
- Friends in Low Places, by Suze. Hot sex. Very hot sex. Duncan pays Methos to show him a good time.
- Lay Your Hands On Me, by Zen and Nancy. Methos needs Duncan's help to settle a Quickening. Good sex and nice characterization.
- Save The Last Dance For Me, by Dayspring. Duncan makes the mistake of identifying Methos as his domestic partner. Methos sets out to make it a reality. Lots of humor and ROG sarcasm, without the usual overflowing serving of angst you find in a DM/M story.
- The Fully Interactive Sex Manual, by HollyIlex. Methos offers his service as a sexual aid to Richie. Holly has also written more Richie/Methos, including a Sentinel/Trek/Highlander crossover which is both sad and engrossing (Death and Destiny), and the Huji series, where Methos takes Richie on as a student. Both can be found on her page.
Red Dwarf
SeaQuest
Sentinel
- Formula #7, by Scorpio. Jim gets dosed with something akin to Viagra. Hysterical.
- Partners, by Josephine Darcy. Rafe and Brown borrow Blair for the day. Jim gets very jealous. A laugh-out-loud story.
Smallville
- Blow Your Mind, by Jenn. Clark picks Lex up from a party. Jenn writes Clark and Lex like I want to have written them. Clever, funny, deep. When I was still in this fandom, I'd put out a story and then read Jenn's latest and know that she'd said everything I'd wanted to say, only better. A tremendous author.
- Chupa Chup, by Te. Clark drives a drunk Lex home. Lex tells limericks.
- Ice, by Merry. Lex runs his car off the road in a snowstorm and Clark saves him.
- Reasons Unknown, by Perri Smith. Lex and Chloe get stashed away by kidnappers. Lex takes care of Chloe. Awwww.
- Sticks and Stones are for the Verbally Inept, by Saone and Random. Lex and Chloe moon over Clark. Sharp and hysterically funny.
Star Trek
All of these are currently Q, as I was the alt.fan.q archivist for several years, and well, that's what I was paying the most attention to.
- Dance of Chameleon and Mirror The reason for Q and Guinan's animosity is revealed. If you like "Only Human" and haven't read this, you're missing out.
- EsQPade More of a Bashir story than anything else, but as emotional angst and sex goes, this is pretty dang good.
- From Me to Q The first story by Julia Houston, and in my opinion, an untoppable original Picard/Q tale. Powerful and twisty, this story is an engaging must-read.
- Happy Bday from Q An entertainingly done 20th century crossover story.
- His Beloved Pet Run, do not walk, to read this story. An emotionally heartwrenching story of Q and Picard involved in B&D.
- InterQ Smutty good fun -- the surprises and twists in this tale had me off-balance to the end.
- Lifewish Another heartwrenching tale. Q toys with Paris to find the true nature of love.
- Mithrais Takes a Q The best of Joanne Soper-Cook's romances involving Q. Read this one to catch the addiction.
- Only Human. The ultimate must-read from the alt.fan.q archive. Q loses his powers and becomes a very unhappy man.
- Picard/Q Backrub Fantasy This one is only a vignette, but just reading it makes for a better backrub than some I've gotten in the past.
- Smart Trek 2 -- The Wrath of Q Maxwell Smart meets The Next Generation. Avoid at your own peril. Yet another funny story.
- The Best of All Possible Worlds A dark, absorbing story in which Picard tries to redeem the Picard of "Dark Mirror"'s alternate universe. Winner of 1996 Alt.Startrek.Creative award for Best General Romance.
- The Louder the Song Oh my, oh my. Ruth Gifford, move over. Varoneeka creates a universe in which Q and Picard must fall in love or else, and the way Q goes about it is more than memorable.
- Three's a Crowd Q forces a woman to choose between sex with him and sex with Picard. The very first story I encountered on alt.startrek.creative.
Star Wars
Stargate SG-1
- Impulse, and its sequel, Beyond Impulse, by Jennifer Lyon. Heh. Alien mind control hijinks at their best. I can just see Jack and Daniel doing this.
