Afternoon Nap, by Mercutio (mercutio@europa.com)
Pairing: Lance and JC
Words: crayon; behave; mist; aspire
Lance handed the box of crayons and the coloring book to Chris.
"If you'll behave for twenty minutes, I'll give you a cookie."
"That's not going to work on me, dude. I'm not five. Ooh, hey, is
this an X-Men coloring book?" Chris opened it up and started
flipping through the pages. Lance pushed him toward the table.
"Yep, X-Men. Twenty minutes, that's all I'm asking."
"Calm down, Bass," Chris said absently, sitting down and looking
through the pictures. "I'm not *that* bad."
"No, you're worse," Lance said, but Chris was opening the crayon
box and not listening at all. He rolled his eyes. "How did I get
to be the daddy of this psychotic little family?"
"Unanimous decision," Joey said, coming into the room on the tail
end of Lance's comment and looking over Lance's shoulder. "I see
you got the crackhead over there to settle down. How'd you manage
that?"
"Bribery."
"A timeless classic."
"I thought so. There's a chocolate chip cookie in it for you if
you can get Justin off the phone and down here in less than ten
minutes."
"Just one?" Joey gave him a pleading expression.
Lance held firm. "One."
"Fine. Be that way."
"I will."
Joey stomped out, and Lance grinned. Joey didn't mean it. And
he'd be back in ten minutes with Justin if he had to throw him over
his shoulder and carry him in. Which left just one member of the
dysfunctional family to round up. He'd had a lot of experience
with handling JC too. Lance had left three wake-up calls, and
stopped on his way over in order to slip into JC's room and turn
all the lights on. JC hated sleeping with the lights on. He
thought it was a waste of electricity.
Lance looked at his watch. Any minute now...
JC came in, singing under his breath. "Puff, the magic dragon,
lived by the sea. And frolicked in the autumn mist, in a land
called--" He stopped as he saw Chris at the table. "Ooh,
crayons!"
Lance handed him a Barbie coloring book and a box of glitter
crayons.
JC crinkled his eyes up into a smile and kissed him on the cheek.
"Thank you."
Oh, yeah. That was why he put up with being the daddy. Lance
smiled back. "You're welcome."
JC sat down across from Chris and dumped his crayons out on the
table. Chris stuck out his tongue at JC and promptly stole his
blue crayon. JC ignored him and went for the pink.
He was highly tempted to get them juice and some blankies and tell
them he was putting them down for an afternoon nap, but as one of
his aspirations was to live a little longer, Lance picked up his
phone and asked for five chocolate chip cookies to be sent up
instead.
