Material Boy, by Kate (sirkate@yahoo.com) and Mercutio (mercutio@europa.com)
Pairing: Joey and JC
Words: laughable; oh; materialism; jackrabbit

The universe has ended. Joey knows this because he's trying to
take a nap, and *JC* won't let him.

"Joey, Joey, Joey!" JC says, pulling on the other man's arm. "Wake
up!"

"No," Joey moans. JC is like a jackrabbit on speed. It'd be
laughable if Joey wasn't so damn tired.

"Please, Joey. Please, please, please."

"Why?"

"You *promised* you'd go shopping with me."

"But at six in the morning?"

"You're awake."

"No. I'm not." Joey closes his eyes more tightly and pulls the
pillow over his head.

"Are so. Besides, it's not six in the morning."

"Not?"

"Nope. The *big* hand is on the six. The *little* hand is on the
twelve. It's 12:30."

"And I have to get up," Joey says in resignation.

"Well..." JC says. "If you really don't want to go with me..."

Joey rolls out of bed and starts lumbering to the shower. He
always feels like a fucking animal around JC. Too big, too hairy,
too clumsy. But he tries not to let it bother him. "Wanna pick my
clothes?" he asks in recompense for being an ass.

"Okay!" JC feels much happier now that he knows Joey is going with
him. When Joey's with him, no one ever makes fun of him for being
himself. Joey is JC's beard. So he picks out something nice and
masculine for Joey.

Joey comes out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist and
one around his head and surveys the clothes JC's laid out. He
starts hunting through the piles. "A thong, C?" he asks, voice
amused.

JC blushes. "I was going to borrow it."

"Okay. Go for it." Joey's not quite sure how JC's tiny waist is
supposed to fit something designed for Joey's great, big waist,
though.

JC sets it aside. He'll take it back to his room before they go.
"Thanks. And thank you for going with me."

"No problem. I'm just an ass. I promised." Joey smiles and drops
the towels, having successfully dressed under them.

JC's only a tiny bit disappointed that Joey manages to get dressed
without displaying any skin. Really. "I'd rather go shopping with
you than anyone else."

"Why's that, C?"

"No one ever bothers me when I'm with you. You make me look
straight."

Joey smiles with half his mouth. "I see." It's sort of ironic,
really.

"See, if I do it, then everyone will notice and take pictures and
say stuff because I make it look gay by being there. But if you're
there, then it's automatically okay," JC explains earnestly. "But
I like that it's you," he adds. "I like being with you."

Joey grins. "Okay, JC. Let's go, then."

"Okay!" JC says and grins. Shameless materialism is so much more
fun with a partner.
