Observation Notes
Oct. 31, 2002 - Streambed dry. Pond is dry.
Nov. 6, 2002 - Nov. 10, 2002 - Rains heavy at times. Streambed still
dry. Carpet of leaves. Pond still dry.
Nov. 11, 2002 - Puddles forming in streambed. Pond still dry. Set out
rain gauge on berm of pond.
Nov. 13, 2002 - Small puddle in pond. 3-4' N of island. More puddles
in streambed.
Nov. 21, 2002 - Puddles in pond all dried up. Streambed has more puddles,
but not quite connected yet.. Need more rain.
Dec. 9, 2002 - Stream flowing. Large puddles in pond near island. Made
sure inlet was closed down.
Dec. 11, 2002 - Pond 1/3 to 1/2 full. Island surrounded. Water coming
out of "drain pipe" outlet. Squirting out like an artesian well.
Checked inlet and had to reseat the close down. Should be completely blocked
now.
Dec. 12, 2002 - Pond is full. Close to overflow. The water is lower in
the inlet then in the culvert feeding it. So it appears that the inlet
is blocked off.
Dec. 13, 2002 - Pond is full. Utilizing the overflow some. The inlet
stream is full, from overflow of the pond. The "drain pipe"
outlet completely submerged.
Dec. 14, 2002 - Pond is full. Overflow in full use now. The ditch is
full and has overflowed near where the berm ends by the inlet. So the
berm on westside (near road) has water on both sides of it. It appears
to be flowing down to low point where the ditch also dumps. Need to keep
an eye on this. Especially in high rain events. Near the outlet there
is standing water, similiar to a wet prairie. Need to plant this to develop
into a wet prairie. Other areas that in the past have the wet prairie
look are beginning to flood also. They too could use some enhancement.
Dec. 15, 2002 - Pond is full. Overflow in use. Water has receded outside
of pond - just puddles now. But the third of four storms is expected later
today. And the fourth tomarrow.
Dec. 16, 2002 - The storm came. The pond is the fullest I have seen it.
Marked the highwater point at southern edge of berm. Still has a few inches
to go before breaching the berm. Overflow is working and a channel to
stream is beginning to form. It all looks good. There is water on both
sides of the west edge of berm and some puddles on top of berm near the
intake channel. No pictures today. It looks real similiar to the 14th.
Just a bit more water.
Dec. 17, 2002 - The storms are over for now. The berm is holding, the
overflow worked and the intake is not needed at the moment. The water
has dropped down some in the pond, and it will drop some more as the overflow
controls the level. No pictures today either. Will see how far it drops
as the rains let up. It should drop back to the Dec.12th level.
