Steve Teich's Government Info Sites
Links to a selection of government resources - international, national, state and local.
- Government Resources on the Web
- From the University of Michigan. Excellent coverage of international, federal and state government information resources.
- Frequently Used Sites Related to U.S. Federal Government Information
- Just what the title says. Where to start if you don't know where else to go for this kinda stuff. Remarkably easy to use; annotated, but no nonsense. In other words, a cool site with sensible shoes. What else would you expect from the American Library Association?
- Federal Web Locator
- From the Center for Information Law and Policy. Searchable database of Web sites for federal agencies. Includes non-governmental federally related sites, as well as some multilateral and international organizations. Easy to navigate.
- US Federal Government Agencies
- From Louisiana State University. Links to federal agencies on the WWW, including boards, commisions, committees and quasi-official bodies.
- Columbia University U.S. Government Document Collection
- Not a directory of agencies, but full text resources arranged by general subject area. Easy to use.
- Thomas
- From the Library of Congress. Comprehensive guide to US legislative information. Links to other branches of federal government (executive, judicial, and scandalmongering), as well as state and local government links.
- GPO Access
- An easy way to search through the Federal Register, the U.S. Budget, legislation, etc. Includes full text.
- White House Briefing Room
- Press releases, policies, propag...I mean proclamations. Full text of the president's Saturday radio addresses, the very same addresses that no one you know has ever heard. Rather slow (figure it out).
- US Dept. Health & Human Services
- Links to all DHHS agencies, including FDA, NIH, HCFA.
- Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
- Epidemiological information, data and statistics, Morbidity & Mortality Weekly Review, information for travelers.
- National Library of Medicine
- MedLine via PubMed and Grateful Med, telemedicine information.
- State and Local Government on the Net
- Easy to use, well maintained. Covers state, county, city web sites.
- Stateline.org
- A great site to find current news and useful data at the state level. Even better, the compare feature allows side by side comparisons of up to five states.
- StateSearch
- From the National Association of State Information Resource Executives. So who knew this association even exists? Easy to navigate. A good starting point when looking for state information outside Oregon. Not comprehensive in terms of subject material, but it does cover all states (excluding hysteria).
- Community Health Status Indicators
- A database sponsored by the DHHS's Health Resources and Services Administration. Profiles of every U.S. county's overall health status using a broad spectrum of health indicators. Searchable by state, population range, and, to some extent, ethnicity.
- Oregon State Library
- The place to start when looking for Oregon state government infomation. Links to Oregon Revised Statutes, newspaper database, state employee directory, state agencies.
- Global Search of State of Oregon WWW
- If you've been away for a while, even if it's only been a couple of days, here's a great way to find out what's new at any state agency Web site. Search by word, phrase, or agency. Not glamorous, but effective (except when it's not up, which is not infrequently).
- Oregon Health Division
- Pretty good sets of links to public health resources and Oregon county health departments. Check out the Oregon Department of Human Services for additional information.
- Oregon Office of Rural Health
- Information about ORH activities, plus links to rural health information resources and Oregon/Pacific Northwest associations.
- CascadeLink
- All kinds of information about Portland and the Metro region. Links to government, neighborhoods, non-profits, education, arts and entertainment.
